Two E. coli cases identified in Grayson County, KY

The Grayson County News-Gazette reported that two E. coli cases have been reported in Grayson County, Kentucky.  Public health officials have not indicated that the cases are related to the Topps meat recall and E. coli outbreak or to the E. coli outbreak among children attending an Indiana school.  As reported in the News-Gazette:

“We have E-Coli cases from time to time,” [Linda Sims, director for the Lincoln Trail District Health Department] explained. “I do not think these are related to the Indiana cases. We had a couple of cases last week in Nelson County in a school daycare and those were not related. We don't expect these to be either.”

One of the cases being reported in Grayson County is school-based, whereas the other case is not, said Sims. She said the two cases do not seem to be related since the two patients do not have any contact with each other.

“We're talking with the families and the patients to track down what they've eaten or where they've eaten and what the source is,” she added.
