There has been one case of E. coli contamination in Quesnel, British Columbia, but it is not linked to the Safeway ground beef recall, according to the Cariboo Press.
The infected person had never bought nor eaten any meat from Safeway.


It’s not unusual to have E. coli in ground beef, says John Younger, Northern Health public health inspector. He adds that it is important to prepare the meat properly and avoid cross contamination.
Ground beef must be cooked to an internal temperature of 71 degrees Celsius, he added, and freezing does not kill the bacteria.
